Twelve Manitobans were invested into the Order of Manitoba at a ceremony at the Legistlative Building in Winnipeg. They received their award from Janice Filmon, Luietenant Governor of Manitoba.
The Order of Manitoba, the province’s highest honour, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour, benefiting the social, cultural or economic well-being of Manitoba and its residents.
The twelve Manitobans were Rachel Alao, Chad Allan, Karen Beaudin, Tom Cochrane, Dian Cohen, Wilma Derksen, Dan Johnson, Sheldon Kennedy, Donald R.J. Mackey, Mitch Podolak, Monica Khhem Kamarie Singh and Jonathan Toews.
“When I hear stories like Karen’s and some of the people here, the selfless work they do,” said Cochrane, a Juno fixture for over two decades.
“Jonathan Toews will probably echo this: We get paid pretty well for what we do and we put back through charities and stuff. But a lot of these people have worked selflessly through their lives. So it’s really humbling getting this award with them.”
